What would you do if you would receive €10.000,- per month for the next 30 years?
I have dreamed of winning one specific lottery In the Netherlands, where you can actually win €10.000,- per month for the next 30 years. The idea that I would be completely set for the rest of my life (or at least the next 30 years), live life to the fullest and have the choice to not work or do work on whatever I would like. To me, that sounds like a fairytale.
Please understand, I do believe that money by itself does not make anyone happy, yet having the money, and being free of having to work for your money every single day will already make a big difference. Enough money will allow you to have freedom. The freedom to completely choose how you want to spend your life, where you want to spend it, and how you want to share your abundance with others, can be a big determinant of how happy you can be. Which exactly why I love doing this little thought experiment, to figure out how winning a lottery would change my life.
This year I found out that this is not something that can only be achieved by winning a lottery (a chance of about 1 in 6,3 million) but can also be done through becoming FIRE (Financially Independent, Retire Early). And honestly, I am so happy and grateful that I came across this term, because it was exactly what I was looking for, a way to work towards the same luxuries a lottery ticket would allow me. The possibility of gaining financial freedom by consistently taking steps towards a specific goal suddenly seemed obtainable and within reach, even if that means working towards the same goal for the coming 30 years.
The way to do it for me is by investing in ETFs (which of course have some risks involved, you can lose your deposit). The idea of investing has never really interested me until the moment I realized what I can accomplish with it. I started investing because it was not just to make more money, but to create a passive income source in the long term, one that can be sustained indefinitely. Because the way I would want to live my life is by spending my days traveling to the most beautiful places in the world, enjoying my time with loved ones, and sharing amazing food. I want to be creative every day by painting and/or photography, developing new skills through constant practice. I want to develop as a person and help others, build their abundant dream life and find their happiness because I just believe that it is out there for everyone. Most of all I want to live my passions!
